Odontoid Type I Fracture (Report of a Case Complicated with Atlantoaxial Dislocation)
نویسنده
چکیده
Odontoid type I fracture is an avulsion fracture of the odontoid tip resulting from forceful distraction of the alar ligament and has been reported only in a few rare occasions. We have recently encountered an odontoid type I fracture complicated with atlantoaxial dislocation in an 18-year-old male motorcycle rider sustaining neck injury in a crash. An accurate diagnosis was achieved with axial and reconstructed CT images. The patient was managed successfully with combination of transarticular C2-C1 screwing and posterior wiring technique after application of light skull traction. We could not fi nd a similar case with a literature survey.

Traumatic Posterolateral Atlantoaxial Dislocation with Type II Odontoid Fracture: Case Report
Background context: The combination of atlantoaxial joint dislocation and odontoid process fracture is usually a lethal injury and as a result, reports of survivors are rare. In the last thirty years only fifteen clinical cases have been described. Purpose: We present a case of a 30 year old patient with a traumatic posterolateral atlantoaxial dislocation (type V dislocation based on the Fieldi...

Background: Concomitant Hangman’s fracture and atlantoaxial subluxation is a rare phenomenon. Herein, we reported a victim of motor vehicle crash with traumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis and atlantoaxial rotatory dislocation. Case presentation: the patient was a 32 years old female with a chief complaint of severe neck pain and normal neurologic examination except for mild torticollis. Ima...
متن کاملAn uncommon case mimicking cervical trauma: Os odontoideum
Os odontoideum is a separate odontoid process from the body of the axis. It is the most common anomaly of the odontoid process. Patients with this condition can be asymptomatic or present with a wide range of neurological dysfunctions. It may cause cervical instability, atlantoaxial dislocation and myelopathy. This anomaly can mimic Type I and II odontoid fractures. There is a role for conserva...
متن کاملTraumatic Posterior Atlantoaxial Dislocation Without Associated Fracture but With Neurological Deficit
Posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without odontoid fracture is extremely rare and often results in fatal spinal cord injury. According to the reported literature, all cases presented mild or no neurologic deficit, with no definite relation to upper spinal cord injury. Little is reported about traumatic posterior atlantoaxial dislocation, with incomplete quadriplegia associated with a spinal co...
متن کاملC1 posterior arch screw as an auxiliary anchor in posterior reconstruction for atlantoaxial dislocation associated with type II odontoid fracture: a case report and review of the literature
INTRODUCTION Although pedicle or lateral mass screws are usually chosen to fix atlantoaxial (C1-C2) instability, there is an increased risk for vertebral artery (VA) injury when used in patients with bone or arterial anomalies or osteoporotic bone. Here we report the C1 posterior arch screw as a new technique for upper cervical fixation. CASE DESCRIPTION A 90-year-old man complained of upper ...
